Rachel Hollis Girl Go wash your face

FINALLY! A book review! I know you’ve been waiting years for this and it has finally come! Honestly, having a baby really derails a lot of your goals due to lack of time and energy, so I’m really happy I can slowly get back to writing!  I couldn’t think of a better book to start off with than “Girl, Wash Your Face” by Rachel Hollis.

I never heard of Rachel Hollis before reading this book. One of my best friends in the world recommended I read when I was in an especially low point recently. Remember the previous posts about feeling off which lead to therapy? Well, this book really lifted my spirits and her words resonated with me when I needed it most.  She changed how I viewed certain lies I’ve been telling myself my whole life.

This self-help book reads more like a memoir because she uses stories from her own life. It’s her stories and vulnerability that really spoke to me. I related with her on so many levels. She talked about self doubt professionally and personally, not feeling like you measure up, relationship challenges and  motherhood with it’s own challenges. She talked about her business how she started from nothing to now running a mega media company.

Some might be put off that she is a religious person, that she believes in God and does reference her faith in the book. She doesn’t preach, she simply has faith. I’m not a religious person and her references on occasion didn’t bother me one bit because everything else she was saying was so powerful.

Look at this list of lies from the tables of contents from her book. I’ve told myself a number of these same lies my entire life!

I love that she breaks down each lie, how it related to her own life experiences, how she overcame them and what helped. This book may have changed my life and I am forever grateful to my best friend for recommending it. I think everyone should read this book because whether or not you’re struggling there is something in this book that will lift you up and inspire you.
