Family Crest

First impressions are important especially when you are trying to set the tone for your wedding. The first thing I thought about was what kind of vibe I wanted to send with my wedding invitations. I started with adjectives to describe what I wanted my guests to feel, just as I did when I was looking for my wedding dress. The adjectives that I wanted my wedding to emulate was: regal, elegant, romantic and timeless. The colors I chose were blush pink (romantic) and gold (regal).

As you all know by now I’m obsessed with fairy tales and the fact that I was getting married in a far away land was the perfect set-up for a fairy tale themed wedding. So that’s how the invitations started. I wanted something that resembled a fairy tale storybook. I worked on creating this design with an invitation designer, Social Savvy Design, I had used previously for my farewell party. She’s great at taking my ideas and turning it into something beautiful. I thought about how I wanted to incorporate my new last name and so I immediately thought of a family crest with the letter “N” in the center.

I wanted the first page of our invitation to lead you into our fairy tale, so we placed one of our engagement photos in the center with the text, “Once in a while right in the middle of an ordinary life love gives us a fairy tale.”

The inside sheets were a bit tricky. Since we were having a multi-cultural wedding I needed to incorporate both English and Swedish languages for the text. Daniel is a Macedonian Swede and I’m a Vietnamese American living in Sweden. I needed a good way to display both without it looking strange. I’m the type of person that likes balance so I needed my invitations to have that same approach.

We had guest that were coming from different parts of the world so we needed created a wedding email address as well as a wedding website. There they could find all the necessary information regarding the wedding including which airlines to use, reserved hotels for our wedding with special rates, charter bus transportation to and from the wedding, the wedding day schedule and what to do in Malmö for those visiting. We even developed our own app so that you could track our wedding on any mobile device. We used AppyCouple to build our website and app. Be ready to spend a lot of time setting it up, but turned out great. I forgot to take photos of it. Too bad because it was pretty cool.

We had a small response card enclosed and my first name initial and Daniel’s first name initial to tie it all together with a belly band.

What to do with your invitations after your wedding? I wanted a special way to display my invitation so I placed it in a frame along with my cake topper and matching menu. It’s a great way to be reminded of a special day.
