Our Building

After an easy 14 hour nonstop flight from LAX to Copenhagen, Denmark… I have arrived!!! Daniel picked me up from the Danish airport and we made our way to Eslov, Sweden. I have only been in Sweden during the winter at Christmas time, so I have never seen a Swedish summer. Daniel said that it has been unseasonably hot by Swedish standards reaching into the mid 90° F or 32°C. To me, it felt like a summer day in Los Angeles so I welcomed the heat and the sunshine. As we drove by the other cities making our way to Eslov, I couldn’t help but to shed a tear. This is my new home. This beautiful country is so far from what I know, no highrises in the horizon, no Hollywood sign in my backyard, no mountains or hills for me to hike on hot days like this… that was all behind me. This tiny charming city called Eslov is to be my home now…it is amazing how life can take you beyond your imagination.

Daniel wanted to stop by our apartment before meeting up with his family. I was especially excited because I had only seen pictures of it. He had been paying 2 months rent and not living in it because I forbid him to decorate it. I wanted us to share that experience together since this was the first time we would be living together. Most men wouldn’t deal with some of my crazy ideas, but he humors me. When we arrived at our apartment, my jaw dropped… it was so beautiful. The building was once business offices, but was gutted and converted into apartment homes. Completely renovated from the inside, but the outside remained untouched aside from new paint. It looked and felt very “European” to me. The flooring at the entrance was the original flooring from a hundred years ago, beautiful.

As we reached our door Daniel picked me up and walked me through the threshold. A very romantic gesture for him, but he knew I would love it. Walking through the apartment I immediately fell in love. It was perfect…well almost. Walking into the bedroom I noticed a wardrobe in place of a closet. My heart sank a little, I had sent 10 boxes of shoes, handbags, and clothing…of which had no where to go. Daniel was confident that we would find a solution to the lack of closet space. Closet or no closet, I am so excited that this is our home and I get to furnish it any way I see fit… it’ll be interesting to see what Swedish furniture looks like.
