I know my title sounds strange, but hear me out. Daniel pointed out something to me the other night as I was strategically walking down the SETT (also known as Belgian block, is a broadly rectangular quarried stone used for paving roads usually made of granite) paved streets of Malmö in my 5″ Stuart Weitzman stiletto heels,… that I’ve never actually had to walk in them. He made a point that walking in Sweden is different than walking on the streets of Los Angeles.

Los Angeles is a driving city, not a walking city… well at least that is how it was for me. I would drive to the gym, workout, get in my car and drive home. I know that sounds crazy to some, but that is normal in Los Angeles. You never had to walk anywhere. Going to dinner was a breeze… you drive up to the restaurant, valet your car and 2 steps later you’re in the restaurant. And when I got to thinking about how I managed all day working in heels, I mean we are talking 8 hour days,… I began to realize that I didn’t spend a lot of that time walking or standing. I was doing a lot of sitting, driving and swearing at traffic. I have been wearing high heels since I was 14 years old. It is a normal thing for me to reach for my heels when going out. I am only 4’11” or 153cm, so high heels makes me feel somewhat normal in height… or at least gives me great posture. I love wearing high heels and the way I feel in them… Like Marilyn Monroe once said, “Give a girl the right shoes, and she can conquer the world.”

I had the vision of moving to Europe and being one of those effortless women walking in their heels,…très chic! But instead I am hobbling down the sett paved street with my feet bleeding! And my poor shoes… they took a beating. Each of the stones are not perfectly aligned, they have gaps and areas where pointy heels easily get stuck. Sure the streets look lovely, but who is going to pay to fix my shoes? Good thing I didn’t wear my Christian Louboutins or my Chanels! If any women out there knows the trick on how to walk on these sett paved streets in high heels, please share your secret!!! My feet and shoes beg you!
